I have always loved creating, and thinking outside the box. As a child, I made clothes for my barbie doll out of aluminum foil, built mazes for our pet hamsters out of hardwood blocks, made forts and houses out of chairs and blankets. Our family was by no means wealthy; my parents had both gone through the Great Depression and knew how to make ends meet and live on a budget. Perhaps it was a good thing that our family didn't have a lot of money, as this inspired me to be very creative making my own toys, and crafts, and more.
My folks were always encouraging me to be creative, explore, think outside the box. When we went to the store, I would frequently ask: "Can we buy this or that?" And my folks would always reply, "I bet you could make that yourself." I grew up creating, exploring, loving arts, crafts,"making something out of nothing." Growing up, we had all kinds of animals: salt water aquariums, lizards, snakes, hansters, guinea pigs, chickens, and of course cats. My mom told me that when I was about 2 yrs old, a little black kitten came to the window of our basement. I was drawn to that cat. I have always had a special place in my heart for cats, and I have been blessed to be a mom to kitty "children".
From when I was a child, I have felt a kinship with things from the past. Antiques, old houses; and I was always fascinated by history. My grandmother had a house and acreage in Washington, and every year when I was a child up till I became a teen, our family took a trip to Washington to stay at Gramma's house. I will never forget that place. It was like walking back in time, the pictures of our ancestors, the varied and many antique and vintage items in the house, the lily pond with miniature tree frogs, the beautiful spacious barn, and the acres of fields.
As an adult I still love all things Cats and Vintage. Perhaps because of vintage things reminding me of a simpler time, and because cats are such an integral part of my life, I knew I needed to specialize my products in these two realms.
Every design you see on Cats and Vintage Designs is one of a kind, involving hours to put together 15 or more elements to create the final picture.
